5 star fish
Bret - Cambridge, Idaho (Tuesday, October 9, 2007)
Just obtained 2 sterlets but in this family we call them sturgeon. They look so cool with their spikes and all that stuff, but one is breathing very hard. I wonder if that is ok. Nice and in perfect condition. I suggest that starter fish keepers don't sart out with one of these, well at least with only a couple months time with fish. Though I am only 10 turning 11 tommorow.
Thanks a lot,
Bret

Acipenser Ruthenus
Michael C - Boston (Friday, January 19, 2007)
The Sterlets Sturgeon(Acipenser Ruthenus) is a cold water/ brackish water fish.
Origin: Europe and Siberia Tibutaries of the Black Sea (now rare), Caspisan Sea, Baltic Sea, and Polar Sea. Keep in mind that these seas have a salinity value. Example the Caspian Sea has a salinity of approximately 1.2%, about a third the salinity of sea water.
These fish do ok in fresh water but just ok.
Temperature: 50-65f
pH: 7.0-7.5
dGH: 15-20
Size: 39'
Swim zone: Bottom
Temperment: Active predator yet peaceful toward fish of the smae size.
Diet: Carnivor, Small fish, worms, and crustaceans (likes large snails).
Adults should be housed in extra large outdoor ponds if the climate is suitable. Body is torpedo-like thus this fish likes to have a current of water. In a still pond the fish will suffer. Oxygen content should not fall under 60%.
