  bichirs
chris - tennessee   (Tuesday, November 23, 2010)

I have an albino, a large senegal, and a 4 inch ornate bichir and love them all. They are very active and eat like pigs. I will buy a banded one from this website when they become available. They are in a 180 gallon community tank with leaf fish, blood parrots, several huge severum, electric blue dempsey, frontosa and even a 12' fire eel. They get along with all but the ornate hides 90% of the time. The 2 others are very active. Always looking for shrimp pellets or African Cichlid Attack sinking pellets. They really love the Hikari Carnivore pellets also. I call my tank the 'Bichir Bar'. Love some Bichirs.

pete - dirty jersey   (Tuesday, January 26, 2010)

purchased with a awesome looking lemon oscar. So far it has been fun to watch and more of a pig than the oscar. fed it brine shrimp that it swallowed immediatly, then at oscars scraps then ate algae wafers for a pleco

  Nice Fish
Travis - Wisconsin   (Tuesday, June 3, 2008)

Got two of them. Very nice to look at and very interesting to watch. Would recommend to anyone. Aquascape definitely sends good quality fish.

flasch - LA   (Monday, May 14, 2007)

We love this fish! He is so fun to watch. He comes to the front of the tank for a hand out whenever anyone goes near the tank.

  Polypterus senegalus
Derrick - Ohio   (Thursday, March 1, 2007)

The other guys are correct, this fish is commonly known as a Senegal (or Cuvier) Bichir. And yes, it is the most common and cheapest of the Bichirs. The 'Salt and Pepper' Bichir is known as a Delhezi Bichir, which is a much more impressive of a specimen. The Albino Bichir and Ornate Bichir are also other way more impressive looking Bichirs. I have one Senegal with one Albino and one Ornate and two of the Delhezi. All the Bichirs have the same personality and eat the same thing. I feed mine mostly beefheart, feeder goldfish, and shrimp. They eat like pigs and grow very fast! I've had my Bichirs for a year, they were all about 3' when I bought them, and now are all between 10' and 12'.

  awesom
Huy - Bay Area   (Monday, April 24, 2006)

i got ripped out, not by this vender but by a local petshop. anyways, these guys are awesome, he eats mainly bloodworms and alot of it. i fed it heavily and came bak to feed my eel, but he was active asap wen i put in food, it grabed the worms b4 the eel can sense it, it has a very big apetite. his correct common name is BICHIR (biker). he is a active swimmer even w/o food. but he hides 3/5th of the time. Very eleggant creatures, i love the fins. I dont recomend leaving these guys with eels, cuz he will snag all the food to himself.

  The African Bicher
Justin - Westcoast   (Friday, March 17, 2006)

the common name for this type fish is a Bicher. they are cool looking fish but can be boring. I had 3 of them in a VERY high aggressive tank. and they did fine. Mostly because they are cave dwellers. If you give them somewhere to hide they will. Mine grew signifincantly between times when I would see them. they come in different varietys. This one being the most common. They also come in a salt and pepper coloring that is called 'Armored' as well as albino. they are neat fish if you have an open tank but again if you have caves you will rarely see them untill they grow to large to hide. They can get pretty big as well but are slow growers. Just like chicilids they love live food but also will scavange for whatever they can get.
they will eat whatever will fit in their mouths. NOT reccomended for a community tank. Safe to keep with Chicilids.
